DRY NEEDLING

Dry needling is the use of acupuncture needles to treat trigger points in the muscles and soft tissue of the body. It is not to be confused with Chinese medicine acupuncture. The dry needling technique is an effective and very accurate way to treat painful trigger points, increasing the range of movement and decreasing pain.

Developed in the mid-20th century, it was initially used to inject analgesics into localised pain sites (known as trigger points). The discovery was then made that even if you don’t inject analgesic into the tissue, the action of inserting a hypodermic needle into the muscle releases the trigger point. It was refined as a technique, and much finer gauge acupuncture needles were utilised instead.

In essence, it is a very precise version of trigger point therapy. Rather than using pressure on the outside of the body, you can work directly on the inner muscle fibres that are being affected. This makes it very effective for most people. Dry needling is performed at the end of a treatment, and needles are left in for a maximum of 10 minutes.

Laura continues to fix me as my job takes its toll on my body being a fitness instructor. I’ve been seeing her for a year now and she is an invaluable part of my routine. Earlier this year she used a treatment on me called Micro current therapy and the pain I experience in my arthritic hands went away for 2/3 days. I urge anyone to see her if they are suffering as she has a wealth of knowledge at her magical fingertips.
