CUPPING

Based on ancient Chinese techniques, this involves placing plastic cups over areas of tension and removing the air from them. The effect is to draw the air up inside the cup and, therefore, the tissue as well. This stretches the tissue, allowing for an increase in interstitial fluid and blood, resulting in a flow of nutrients, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and waste products.

A massage therapist uses this on stiff joints and with other techniques, such as myofascial release. It is also useful in some cases for scar work and where there are adhesions.

The technique is ‘dry’ cupping. We do not make any incisions into the skin and do not practice ‘bloodletting’. The cups are simply placed on the skin.

I absolutely love coming to see Laura, not only for her massages but also for a good chat too! Her work has really helped me during my pregnancy to loosen me up and helped ease my back and sciatic pain. Such a lovely lady too, makes you feel so at ease – really glad I found someone local I can keep going back to! Highly recommend.
